Consumers take on unethical companies

The consumers tipped off local media about the unethical deeds of a cleaning service provider in Beijing — not cleaning the blankets used by a major airline company on its flights.

The scandal prompted several airline companies to state that their blankets were clean and properly sanitized.

Stocks Set To Drop On Debt Worries

U.S. stocks were poised to fall Monday, as uncertainty over the U.S. debt ceiling and worries about European debt put investors on edge.

Dow Jones industrial average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures were lower ahead of the opening bell. Futures measure current index values against perceived future performance.

Uncertainty drove investors to gold, which hit a new intraday record high of $1,602.50 an ounce in early trading. Investors see gold as the best place to park their money when there’s economic or political uncertainty. Read more info…

OIG: Most Medicare-provided power wheelchairs unneeded or undocumented

WASHINGTON – Sixty-one percent of power wheelchairs provided to Medicare beneficiaries in the first half of 2007 were medically unnecessary or had claims that lacked sufficient documentation to determine medical necessity, according to the Office of the Inspector General. These power wheelchairs accounted for $95 million of the $189 million that Medicare allowed for power wheelchairs during this period.

Medicare beneficiaries are eligible to receive power wheelchairs under Medicare Part B coverage of durable medical equipment (DME). B
